History & Origins
The Tequila Sunrise originated in the 1930s at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel, where it was first made with tequila, crème de cassis, lime juice, and soda water. The modern version, with orange juice and grenadine, was popularized in the 1970s at a bar in Sausalito, California. It became famous after being associated with the Rolling Stones' 1972 tour and remains a colorful, iconic cocktail.
