History & Origins
The Mojito originated in Cuba, dating back to the 16th century when a similar drink known as "El Draque" was created in honor of English explorer Sir Francis Drake. The modern version evolved in the 19th century, with the addition of refined rum. It became widely popular in the 20th century, partly due to its association with writer Ernest Hemingway, who enjoyed Mojitos at La Bodeguita del Medio in Havana.
